About Valor Academy

Valor Academy Vision
To create a school where all students are entitled to a high-quality education that will present them with the opportunity to pursue college and a professional career.
We employ rigorous academics marked with frequent assessment to consistently set high standards for achievement and encourage students to exceed their own expectations.
Through a combination of accountability and support we create a school culture that emphasizes strong character traits, self-advocacy, and a relentless drive towards college and professional careers.
What is Valor Academy?
Valor Academy is a 5th through 8th grade charter school for the communities of North Hollywood, Arleta, and Panorama City. The school was chartered by the Los Angeles Unified School District in April of 2009 and opened in August of 2009 with a class of 5th graders. We will continue accepting fifth graders, and grow by one grade level each year until Valor consists of all four grades by 2012-13.
We are committed to putting every child on a clear path to college using proven techniques that include a longer school day, excellent teachers, free tutoring, a disciplined school culture that teaches self-respect, frequent communication with parents, an intense focus on literacy and math and enriching after school programs.
What is a Charter School?
A charter school is a public school with no tuition, or stipulation for entrance. Any student that is of the right age and grade level can apply. Independent of the school district, a charter has the freedom to set its own high academic goals, and choose effective teachers and curriculum to make all students successful. Though independent, charter schools are held to a higher level of accountability. Typically chartered every five years, the schools must demonstrate performance that is superior to traditional public schools.
